History of Garo

It was 1947, as Italy began building the foundations of a strong post-war industrial economy, that engineer Roberto Gabbioneta founded Garo SpA in Monza in the industrial heartland of Italy.

Gabbioneta's dream was to build liquid-ring compressors of uncompromising quality for the most demanding applications. A true craftsman, Gabbioneta knew that what you do should be what you do best, and he built Garo on this guiding principle: specialization.

1947 Roberto Gabbioneta established the company in Sesto San Giovanni (MI) to produce liquid ring compressors for chlorine, titanium vacuum pumps and centrifugal pumps.

1973 Inauguration of the Garo plant in Monza, Italy; the current manufacturing, sales and service headquarters for Garo.

1982 The company changes its name to become Garo SpA, and manufactures its first centrifugal "integrally geared" compressor.

1986 Start-up of the first liquid ring compressor system for flare gas recovery. The system was constructed by Garo, and installed at AGIP San Nazzaro. The system is still in operation today.

1997 A period of significant renewal of the GARO compressor range with the realization of larger models including the AB1500 and AB2500, designed to cover expanding market demands.

2001 Garo celebrates the first 20 compressors for flare gas recovery in the United States. The units were sold to Conoco and Shell.

2004 Garo enters a licensing agreement with the Nash Division of Gardner Denver. This partnership expands the NASH line of liquid ring compressors and allows Garo to reach the global market for liquid ring compressor applications.

2009 Garo receives orders from major key accounts in the Middle East, including ARAMCO, ADCO, PDO and TAKREER. The orders are for multiple compression packages for flare gas using GARO AB4000 liquid ring compressors.

2010-2013 Garo enjoys sustained growth in traditional and expanding markets, consolidating its global position as a market leader for liquid ring compressors and systems for the oil & gas industry.

2014 Garo is acquired by Gardner Denver, beginning a new horizon of growth. Sales and service of Garo products are expanded and offered through the Gardner Denver Nash global network.

2018 Garo completes the integration into the Gardner Denver organization as a part of the Gardner Denver Nash Division and contributes to Gardner Denver's global success.

2020 Garo merges with Ingersoll Rand Industrial Segment on March 1st to create a global leader in mission-critical flow creation and industrial technologies.
